Pakistan Railways float tender for advertising trains, railway platforms

Pakistan Railways has released a tender that enables domestic and international businesses to use a variety of passenger trains and rail platforms in order to maximize revenue for the department.

According to department sources, “all preparations regarding the branding of trains and platforms, railway station, specific crossings, and trains have been finalized.” It was also stated that branding the trains and platforms will allow private companies to advertise their goods for the stated purpose in addition to helping Pakistan Railways pay off its growing deficit.

In the beginning, Pakistan Railways will provide five trains as a pilot project for branding their seat coverings, inside walls of the passenger coaches, and even restrooms. “After beginning this project, the department’s deficit will decrease, and the minister has already ordered the department in question to finish all necessary paperwork as soon as possible,” they continued.

Advertisers would have access to the parking lot, platforms, stairways, bridges, and other infrastructure at Lahore Railway Station, according to the sources. Pakistan Railways has made previous attempts to monetize its assets for advertising purposes.

Additionally, in 2014, the organization started a pilot project to provide businesses with branding opportunities on the Tezgam, Khyber Mail, and Awaam Express seat coverings, inside walls, and restrooms.

The initiative, however, was a failure. However, according to the sources, the program takes a broad approach to the problem in an effort to lessen the issues that its predecessor experienced.
