The first-of-its-kind government initiative by Punjab to provide a boost to its agriculture sector and empower farmers and bring about a change in traditional farming. This complete program targets the struggles of conventional farming practices and the expense of farm equipment, as well as raises crop production and aids the farmer to earn his living depending on the farm, particularly those with small- to medium-sized farming.
Significant Investment in Farm Mechanization
The Punjab government is investing more than 60 billion rupees to introduce 20,000 new tractors in the entire province. This ambitious plan includes:
- Subsidized Tractors: 10,000 tractors (50-65 horse power) will be for the sale with huge 70% subsidy up to a limit of Rs. 1 million. This makes it much more affordable for the average farmer to have modern machinery.
- High-Powered Tractors: Yet another 10,000 tractors (with engine power of 75-125hp) will be subsidized to the tune of 50%, with a limit of PKR 1 million, for bigger farm requirements.
- Special Facilities for Wheat Farmers: In view of the importance of growing wheat, 1,000 tractors are being offered absolutely for nothing to wheat cultivators owning 25 to 50 acres of land.
Eligibility and Application Process
There are certain eligibility requirements for farmers who want to qualify for this program:
- Domicile: Candidates should be domiciled in Punjab.
- Age: You should be between 21 and 65 years of age.
- Size of holding: Land owned should be between 1 and 50 acres, with special conditions for the wheat farmer.
- ID: CNIC is a must.
- Kissan Card: You must have a Kissan card as well.
The application process is simplified for ease of use. Farmers can register themselves either online on the official portal at gts. punjab. gov.pk or by visiting agriculture offices in their respective areas. Beneficiaries will be selected openly through an electronic ballot, which is the only fair way to do so.
Unlocking Benefits and Addressing Challenges
There are many reasons this program is beneficial. Farmers will benefit in terms of huge cost savings, improvement in farm productivity through advanced mechanization, and access to hassle free financing, with a 20% down payment and balance to be paid through installments as convenient to the farmers. The scheme also dovetails well with other agri-subsidies, including the Kissan Card and different input subsidies, providing an umbrella support mechanism for farmers.

But as with any massive program, there can be complications. There may be challenges for some farmers to meet documentation requirements, and the digital divide in rural areas could present an obstacle to online applications. Moreover, as there are few tractors available and higher expected competition, strict monitoring is essential to ensure the transparency of the selection process.
Paving the Way for Agricultural Prosperity
The Punjab Green Tractor Scheme is not only a distribution but is also a critical measure for the modernization of agriculture in the area. By democratizing cutting-edge agricultural machinery, the startup is empowering farmers, increasing yields, and building a more stable foundation for Pakistan’s critical agricultural economy. This long-term investment will be key to a much more prosperous and efficient future for farmers throughout Punjab.
