Apple’s upcoming event is generating excitement as WWDC 2023 recedes into the distance. During its Fall event, the Cupertino-based tech giant is anticipated to introduce the iPhone 15, the next generation of its iPhone line. Despite the launch of Apple’s upcoming flagship iPhone series being just over 3 months away, there have been a tonne of leaks and rumours going around.
Apple is rumoured to be considering big improvements to the iPhone 15 series, notably to the iPhone 15 Pro Max, according to reports on everything from its hardware to its design and camera. Here’s what we presently know about the impending iPhone 15 Pro Max despite the many conflicting rumours that have been circulating.
Design
The curved design of the iPhone 15 Pro Max has been suggested by a number of tipsters, and leaked mockups of the device confirm this. Moreover, ShrimpApplePro claims that it might get curved bezels. The viewing area will stay flat, but the side bezels will be much thinner and kept within the curve region to give the display a more bezel-less feel, similar to the Apple Watch Ultra’s display. The iPhone 15 Pro Max, with its 1.55mm bezels, may also have the smallest smartphone bezels ever, according to 9to5Mac.
One of the most significant updates to the iPhone in recent years is the addition of the USB Type-C port, which will replace Apple’s exclusive lightning port in conformity with EU standards. Apple might set a cap on the charging rates for cables and chargers from unofficial manufacturers, enabling only MFi-certified accessories to benefit from maximum charging rates, claims a report.
Additionally, mockups of the iPhone 15 Pro Max have hinted at the presence of a titanium frame with haptic volume controls and a mute switch. A new action button, like the one on the Apple Watch Ultra, may be revealed as a result of another leak.
Specifications
The brand-new A17 Bionic chipset, which may be built on the cutting-edge 3nm process technology, is anticipated for the iPhone 15 Pro Max and the iPhone 15 Pro. The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will be the only models to receive the A17 Bionic, according to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Additionally, 8GB of RAM is anticipated.
The iPhone 15 Pro Max’s rumoured benchmark results demonstrate how much faster it may be than both the iPhone 14 Pro Max and the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, the company’s flagship model. The iPhone 15 Pro Max reportedly scored 3019 on Geekbench 6’s single-core test, compared to 2000 and 2523 for the iPhone 14 Pro Max and Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, respectively.
A MacRumors story that has the support of analyst Ming-Chi Kuo states that the iPhone 15 Pro Max will also reportedly have Wi-Fi 6E.
Cameras
According to reports, the 48MP Sony IMX803 sensor is believed to be part of the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s camera system. A new periscope lens, on the other hand, is purportedly added.
A MacRumors leak suggests that the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s periscope camera may feature almost twice the optical zoom of the existing iPhones. Apple chose Largan, a component manufacturer, to create the periscope lens for the iPhone 15 Pro Max, according to information released by Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo only a few weeks ago.
Now, according to MacRumors, this new periscope camera, which would be integrated within the telephoto lens, might give 5X–6X optical magnification, nearly double the 3X zoom provided by the existing iPhone 14 Pro Max. The iPhone 15 Pro Max will be the sole device with this special capability, according to rumours.
Pricing
According to sources, Apple may increase the price of the iPhone 15 Pro models, widening the price difference with the iPhone 15 Plus, even if there haven’t been any significant leaks about the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s price. The cost of Apple’s flagship model might rise by up to $200. Forbes reports that “LeaksApplePro states that the iPhone 15 Ultra will have a starting price as high as $1299 — a $200 increase on the iPhone 14 Pro Max, and the biggest single generational jump in iPhone history.”
While this is going on, a report on a Chinese platform asserts that Apple might raise the price by $100, but just in the US to make it competitive with other markets. This speculation suggests that the pricing of the iPhone 15 Pro Max will start at $1299 and go as high as $1799 for the 1TB option.
