Following the Spring Festival, China’s railway passenger travels increased by 48.7% annually to over 100 million as the country’s change in COVID-19 reaction freed up dormant travel demand.
In the period from January 22 to February 1, 33, trains made a total of 102 million trips.
According to data from China State Railway Group Co., Ltd., there were 51 million more passengers over the same period last year.
According to the firm, 9.31 million passenger journeys were made daily on average during that time, which is around 90% of the pre-pandemic level in 2019.
To accommodate the growing demand for travel, more trains were put into service, and “point-to-point” trains brought migrant workers directly back to their areas of employment.
