The government’s outstanding debt of more than Rs. 2.6 billion would be collected by Pakistan Railways.

In order to collect billions of rupees in unpaid land and service fees from federal and provincial agencies, the Ministry of Railways has stepped up its efforts. According to the official, many departments owe Rs. 8.75 billion for using their land and resources.

According to him, Pakistan Railways (PR) is owed around Rs. 709 million, Rs. 1.98 billion, and Rs. 5.68 billion by federal, provincial, and private organizations, respectively.

Out of the 550 vulnerable unmanned level crossings that the department identified across the whole railway network last year, the official noted that PR had renovated 167 into manned level crossings. He mentioned how the relevant provincial government provided funding for PR to modernize unmanned level crossings.

The representative stated that the federal government was working with local governments to upgrade dangerous and unmanned railway level crossings nationwide. The official claimed that unmanned level crossings on the network of Pakistan Railways lacked gate leaves.

There are 1,565 unattended level crossings throughout the entire railway network, and according to current railway policy, it is the obligation of the road-owning authority to upgrade any level crossing, whether it is unmanned or manned.
