Since its debut in December 2021, the China-Laos Railway has operated 20,000 passenger trains and handled 10.3 million passenger journeys, according to the railway operator.
The railway carried 65,000 passengers each day on its 8.7 million passenger journeys through China. According to the China Railway Kunming Group Co., Ltd., 1.6 million passenger trips were recorded in its Laos segment, with an average of 8,800 passengers each day.
There are now 10 stations in Laos that can accommodate passenger service, up from seven in the beginning.
The China-Laos railway’s passenger volume has increased and so has the caliber of its services. The railway helps the citizens of the two countries move conveniently and effectively, according to Zheng Bin, deputy stationmaster of Kunming Railway Station.
This year, it is anticipated that the China-Laos railway would introduce cross-border passenger trains to enhance the transportation of people and goods.
The Yunnan Province in southwest China’s Kunming is connected to Vientiane, the capital of Laos, by the China-Laos Railway. On December 3, 2021, the 1,035-km railway—a significant undertaking of top-notch Belt and Road cooperation—began operations.
